Youths working with Mama Mafuyana Housing Co-operative members have reportedly booted former Women’s Affairs Minister Nyasha Chikwinya off her Borrowdale farm.
The youths want the offer letter issued to Chikwinya by the government nullified.
The former legislator filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court seeking to evict the invaders and cited Boniface Mutize, McDonald Gonzo and Paison Sadondo who are members of Mama Mafuyana Housing Cooperative as respondents.
According to court papers, on December 19 2017, Mama Mafuyana housing Co-operative through Mutize issued summons against Chikwinya seeking a declaratory order that the offer letter given to her by the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement was invalid.
Chikwinya said despite the case being pending, Mutize, Gonzo and Sadondo stormed her farm with the help of unidentified youths.
“They have forcibly locked the premises and barricaded the road leading to my residence. Additionally the respondents (Mutize, Gonzo and Sadondo) have placed their security and set up cabins in a typical takeover of my farm. The respondents have taken the law into their own hands. It is on the basis of the foregoing that I approach the court via the urgent chamber book,” she said.
The matter is still pending.
