Warriors’ and South African Baroka F.C. goal keeper Elvis Chipezeze has apologized for what he deemed his personal shortcomings contributing to the loss against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Cairo last night.
Chipezeze who faced stiff criticism from Zimbabwean fans on Social Media felt the loss was heavily on his shoulders and posted a message of apology on his twitter handle.
“I am here today to again apologize for the mistakes I have made and the embarrassment I have caused .I make this apology to my nation and my teammates also not forgetting the technical staff,” said Chipezeze.
Chipezeze had replaced the main keeper George Chigova who suffered hamstring injury during the warmup session.
The Warriors who are said to have taken time to get into the match, were hammered 4-0 by DRC on their last game in Egypt. The loss has been attributed to injuries as Zimbabwe has two injured goal keepers on the bench (Edmore Sibanda and George Chigova).
Zimbabwe failed to progress to the AFCON, while DRC has a chance to qualify as the third best team.
