Sungura artist, Andy Muridzo, real name Andrew Kudzai Ngwenya who reportedly fled from justice after proceeding against a red traffic light and hitting three cars in the process last month has been released on bail.
The accident occurred at corner Sam Nujoma Street and Josiah Tongogara Avenue in Harare.
It was reported that Ngwenya who had no valid driver’s licence could not stop at the accident scene instead, he drove off at high speed through the right side pavement and against the direction of flow of traffic along Sam Nujoma Street.
The complainant in this matter is the State being represented by the owners of the three damaged cars, Innocent Chadyiwa, Debrah Muhonde and Kenneth Dzviti respectively.
The ‘Dherira’ hit maker pleaded not guilty to allegations on driving without a valid licence and reckless driving when he appeared before Harare magistrate Barbra Mateko who rolled over the matter to April 5 after granting him $50 bail.
The State alleges that on February 24, at around 5pm, Ngwenya was driving a Mercedes Benz registration number AEB 0122 along Sam Nujoma street due south and was involved in a hit and run accident.
At a certain point along Sam Nujoma Street, Ngwenya who was occupying a turn right only lane proceeded straight ahead and against a red traffic light.
At the intersection, he collided with a Mercedes Benz along Josiah Tongogara Avenue due west.
It was reported that Ngwenya’s car veered off to the right and hit a Nissan Sylphy which was stationary because of the red traffic light.
As a result of the impact the Nissan Sylphy was forced backwards and bumped into a Toyota Runx which was directly behind it.
The State further alleges that Ngwenya drove off at high speed through the right side pavement and against the direction of flow of traffic along Sam Nujoma Street.
He could not stop, neither ascertain, nor report the accident to police station within 24 hours as required by the law.
