A Zimbabwe bound long distance bus driver was last night nabbed at the South African side of the Beitbridge border post in possession of 16 current passports all belonging to Zimbabwean citizens. It is alleged he had attempted to pass through the scanner when a vigilant immigration officer spotted an anomaly in the driver’s bag prompting a search.
upon being frisked, the immigration details discovered the Zimbabwean passports and the driver could not explain why he had them. On further scrutiny, the SARS details discovered that the passports had been stamped as entered South Africa and now as having left South Africa, yet the legal holders were/are not present.
An Identification document(s) fraud case has since been opened with internal investigations as to how the passports had been processed into the South African Immigration system happened. A number of South African Immigration details have been fingered including Dorah Ncube, Peter Mbedzi and another woman only identified as ‘pregnant’ who took leave when the heat at Beitbridge post was building up.
This could not have come at a worse period as the South African Home Affairs department was still doing damage control over the Immigration official video taped chatting on her smartphone while serving travellers at the same border post. She, and other members of staff have since been suspended.
