The trial for local radio personality and disk jockey Simbarashe “Godfatha Templeman” Maphosa who was facing allegations of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl was pleaded not guilty at the Harare magistrates’ court today.
Speaking to ZimOnline news the Templeman said that the magistrate is waiting for a report from the social welfare so that they can get clarifications on what was happening at home place of the child.
The case was in court on the 29th of May where Maphosa denied the charges revealing that the complainant had told him that her father sexually abuses her and he wanted to help.
In his defence, Maphosa, 40, said he had been a social media friend to the complainant for the past two years.
He also said that the complainant phoned him to the effect that she had seen his poster of a show to be held in Beitbridge and she was interested to be one of the revelers.
Maphosa also told the court that the complainant and her friend went to Beitbridge with his friends.
“When we arrived, the complainant told me that she was no longer coming back to Harare with her friend but the two were leaving for Musina, South Africa because she was being sexually abused by her father.
“I pleaded to return to Harare with her after indicating that I could help by taking her to Star FM and be assisted by Tilda.
“When we came back to Harare, I looked for accommodation for the complainant, before taking her to Tilda’s show her father came with three men and a police officer before assaulting me.
“After assaulting me, I directed them to where the complainant was and when she saw them she started hitting herself on the ground trying to commit suicide indicating that it was better than going back to her father.
“She was assured that she was not going back to her father but to the police station and I was released after she had given her statement.
“I was surprised to be charged of kidnapping 13 days later and further to that she had advised me that she was 23-years-old.”
Maphosa co-hosts the Dancehall Remedy show on Star FM on Thursdays.
