Government has pleaded with the National Bakers Association in Zimbabwe to defer from the hiking of bread from $2 to $3.50.
At a press conference yesterday the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa called petitioned the NBAZ to call off the prices that they had declared on bread because it would spoil the Easter and Independence holiday.
“Cabinet therefore calls on the Bakers Association of Zimbabwe to defer the planned hike in the price of bread in order to allow the normal mutual consultation to take place”.
Hon. Mutsvangwa urged NBAZ to have a proper application for the hiking of prices so that a solution can be come forth with.
“The consultation are aimed at facilitating a clearer understanding of the issues of concern and to explore solution therefore,”.
Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) Chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara said the GMAZ have increased gran to 50%.
“Consequently, we wish to advise that the following maximum recommended prices of maize meal and bakers flour shall apply effectively Monday, April 15 ,2019.Ten kilogramme roller meal at ZWL$10.50 at a recommended price of ZWL$11.85 and 50 kg bakers flour at ZWL$83” said Musarara.
