Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO (ZHR) Forum said Bulawayo and Harare residents are now afraid of contracting water and sanitation deadly diseases due to water shortages and decrepit sewer systems.
In a statement,the organisation said Bulawayo and Harare residents are at risk of contracting deadly diseases such as cholera and typhoid. So the organisation is urging the government to work hand in hand with the City Councils so as to renew the broken sewer pipes and water infrastructure.
“Bulawayo and Harare citizens fear outbreaks of waterborne diseases resulting from water shortages and decrepit sewer systems. It was also reported that the Harare City Council has run out of water purification chemicals,” according to the press statement.
The organisation also said the outbreak of waterborne diseases led doctors to go on strike due to shortage of resources “With the impending outbreak of waterborne diseases, senior doctors and specialists have reportedly embarked on a strike over drug shortages and sundries,” It further states.
