A Harare magistrate has confirmed an extra curial statement made by a Harare man who allegedly killed his estranged wife’s boyfriend after finding the two in their matrimonial home last year.
In the statement, Tapfumanei Allan Muwande, 45, specified that he denies the charge.
He said when he entered the house, he found the Harare Tees boss, Tinashe Chiweshe, 33, naked and he was convinced that he (Chiweshe) had sexual intercourse with his estranged wife, Faith Katsaura, 36.
He mentioned that he was ‘provoked’ and he assaulted Chiweshe who ‘equally’ fought back.
Muwande confirmed that he freely and voluntarily made the statement and was not influenced by anyone.
Initially, Muwande was not asked to plead to murder charges when he appeared in court on October 4 last year.
He was admitted to US$300 bail.
The presiding magistrate ordered him to surrender his passport, to reside at the given address and report twice every week at Rhodesville Police Station as his bail conditions.
It is the State’s case that on September 29 last year, Muwande assaulted the late Harare Tees boss with hands, feet and a bottle on his ribs leading to his death.
Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa deferred the matter to February 25 as investigations continue.
