It’s a family affair at Ekurhuleni Boksburg Hotel

It’s a family affair this Thursday, the 15th of December! Two Legendary music families (quite the musical royalty of Zimbabwe if you ask me) share the stage in a show that’s likely to be one to remember. We speak of none other than superstar Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi and Green Arrows founder, vocalist and bassist, Zexie Manatsa, whose offspring have bound the two families in marriage. The blissful couple, and former musical partners, Selmor Mtukudzi and Tendai Manatsa will be curtain-raisers for their illustrious parents.

The event, dubbed ‘Night of Legends’ is indeed the event of a lifetime, and definitely not to be missed. as the living music legends who both rose to prominence in the 1970s  go back to back till late hours at the popular Ekurhuleni Boksburg Hotel, host to many Zimbabwean musicians. Situated in the East Rand, in Gauteng, the hotel is owned by Roger Muzawazi a Zimbabwean.

Tuku will perform with the Pakare Paye Arts Ensemble while Zexie will be backed by the Manatsa Family who include Tendai Manatsa. Will Selmor join her father or will she stand by her husband and rekindle the musical partnership once again? What a mouth-watering prospect either way!   It has taken a lifetime, but it’s finally here. Zexie and Tuku’s first show together, in style away from home at Muzawazi’s hotel. Tuku is currently on tour in South Africa – his Mzansi Birthday Tour which he kick-started in October in Durban. The Ekurhuleni Boksburg gig will be the fourth event of the Tuku tour.

Tuku launched his 65th album titled Eheka! Nhai Yahwe in September this year. The album features SA’s Jazz icon, Trumpeter Hugh Masekela on the tracks Kusateerera and Bhiza Ramambo. South African songbird, Maduvha Madima, popularly known as Vele on Mzansi’s Venda soap Muvhango is featured on Ndinecha. She also does the backing vocals on other tracks on the album. Daisy, Tuku’s wife also has a go on this, Tuku’s latest project and could be a surprise inclusion on the show.

Zexie Manatsa and the Green Arrows made history way back when by landing the first gold disk ever for a Zimbabwean band. So, Thursday is vintage stuff.   Tickets are available on Computicket… See you there!
