Eleven people died this afternoon when their kombi collided with a private car and burst into flames on the Mvurwi Centenary highway, police say.
Some of the severely burnt and injured victims have been sent to Mvurwi hospital among them were three police officers. Doctors are attending to them while they wait for their transfer to Parirenyatwa hospital in Harare.
There seems to be no end in sight to Mvurwi highway road carnage.This latest tragedy comes hot on the heels of a 50% increase of road deaths from the last tragedy months ago.
Police say they are still investigating what happened however it is time for change, drivers’ behavioral patterns need to be changed through a combination of education and stricter law enforcement amongst other factors.
As Charity Charamba Senior Police commissioner, constantly warns drivers that they should always value human lives and stop this speed racing and barbaric driving.
