MDC Founder & leader Morgan Tsvangirai dies

Zimbabwe’s former Prime Minister, former Trade Unionist Morgan Richard Tsvangirai has died. Tsvangirai who has not been well for quite some time now has died in a South African hospital where he was receiving treatment for colon cancer which the family recently said had spread.

Tsvangirai has led the biggest opposition party in Zimbabwe, the Movement of Democratic Change (MDC) which was bitterly and brutally resisted by the ruling Zanu PF. He himself was on several occasion been brutalised, torchered and arrested, remaining steadfast at his objective of election and democratic change in Zimbabwe.

His party, the MDC has recently been plunged into a three-way power struggle as his deputies fight for the top post in the party as well the heirship to lead the MDC-Alliance coalition to take on ED Mnangagwa for the country’s presidency.
