The case of African Religion: Pastor pairs church members into wives and husbands

The case of African Religion has left most girls and women’s interests not protected. Religion and cultural beliefs has been a determining factor in marriages in Africa with the leading causes being socio-economic circumstances and poverty.

In a memorable event, founder and General Overseer of Christ Mercyland Ministry Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, pairs church members into wives and husbands. The role of religion and tradition has played a big part in African marriages as well as the violations of human rights and sexual violence.

Most of the pastors claim that it is not a matchmaking, but it is fulfilling a divine instruction.

On the other hand, the African culture does not respect and consider a unmarried woman therefore due to pressure from the Afrocentric views and religion, women tend to be wedded  by these embattled clerics.

One possible reason why people fall for these religious leaders is that faith continues to play a very significant role especially in Africa.

In addition, religion and pastors are the only sources of basic care and hope in most African communities hence people get the opportunity of getting out of poverty.

One may also note that the pairing of church members to husband and wife is a religious abuse as one has a right to choose his or her own partner.
