US Embassy Civil society leaders

The United States of America Embassy has endorsed the Human Rights Activists who were arrested at the Robert Mugabe Airport after attending a Civil Society workshop in Maldives for empowering youth in politics.

Posting on their facebook handle, USA Embassy said it was backing the Human Rights activists because they were granted the right of association by the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“The United States supports the fundamental freedoms outlined in Zimbabwe’s Constitution for its citizens .We are at the courthouse now, hoping these freedoms are protected for CSO leaders #Human Rights #Zimbabwe,”

Seven Civil human rights activist were arrested between the 20thto 27th May after attending a workshop in the Maldives which focused on peaceful resistance. The Zimbabwe Human Rights Activists were detained at Chikurubi Maximum they were allegedly plotted to ouster the Mnangagwa regime.

Zimbabwe Human Rights activist are in a court session waiting for an appeal for their case on treason.

The seven activist included Stabile Dewa, George Makoni ,Rita Nyamupanga ,Gamuchirai  Mukura ,Nyasha Frank Mpahlo, Tatenda Mombeyarira ,Farirai Gumbonzvanda.
