Government of United States has responded to Cyclone Idai urgent needs like health, education and agriculture in the most affected areas in Mozambique.
U.S government has deployed a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to Mozambique to assess the most immediate needs and work closely with partners to provide critical assistance to people affected by the devastating Cyclone
Posting on their social media page(US Africa Media Hub) DART Team Leader Angela Sherbenou said their goal is to save lives reduce human sufferings and reduce social and economic impact of the disaster and are still dealing with immediate aftermath and needs in Mozambique.
“As the World’s largest humanitarian assistance US government has provided over $43 million to help meet the immediate needs of people in Mozambique affected by Cyclone Idai,
“Imperative for #US to respond to appeal from Mozambican government for assistance in saving lives and alleviating suffering.US committed to do all we can to help w/ massive relief and recovery challenges that Mozambique government now faces,
“We set up a tactical operations centre in Maputo; hub-and spoke concept. Large military aircraft transport aid in large volumes to a central hub, smaller aircraft then transport that aid to spokes in impacted areas, We are providing multiple daily cargo flights on U.S. military aircraft both to bring humanitarian supplies to Mozambique and to move such supplies to where they are needed within country,”
U.S also said it is committed to work with Mozambican government and people as they seek to rebuild and it is also leading the cholera response on the ground.
