Minister of Energy and Power Development Fortune Chasi said the US$10 million that the government has paid to South Africa’s ESKOM is not a guarantee for power .He urged citizens to pay their electricity bills.
Posting on his twitter handle Chasi said, “Zimbabweans while we have paid 10m$ this is no guarantee for power. We need to negotiate. The public owes 350 million. It must be paid,” said Chasi.
Chasi published a proof of payment for the amount after the social media users accused him of lying about the payment which never happened.
“Lies have short legs. This is what I lied about. I am sorry,” Chasi responded.
Minister also encouraged the public to pay electricity expenses regardless of status because load shedding will affect everyone.
