Two Zimbabwe Republic Police officers stationed in Gweru are battling for their lives after they were run over by a speeding commuter omnibus and are reportedly to be in critical condition.
“The two police officers who were in uniform were patrolling around the central business district when they saw a commuter omnibus -a Toyota Hiace- which was at the intersection of 8th street and Leopold Takawira in Gweru.
The police officers suspected that the three occupants were smoking dagga.”said the source.
He said the police officers allegedly waved down the Hiace but the driver did not stop.The commuter omnibus to evade any arrest ran over the two officers who had blocked the way and as result one of the police officer sustained a deep cut on the forehead ,bruises on the face and chest and a fractured right leg,while the other sustained a fractured leg and swollen right hand .
The driver who is still to be identified is said to have dumped the commuter omnibus and fled from the scene after realizing the crime he had committed.Police have since launched a manhunt for this driver who is on the run.
