The Zimbabwe Congress for Trade Unions (ZCTU) has supported the decision by Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) of resorting to strike in the dispute with the government over the cost of living cushion on salaries.
In a press release, the ZCTU has backed the ARTUZ to go on a strike as the government is failing to give them a practical wage because the teachers were working under harsh conditions.
“The ZCTU fully backs the efforts of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) to improve the welfare and conditions of service for teachers in Zimbabwe,”
ZCTU urged the government to review teachers salaries upwards because they could not afford a decent living.
“The ZCTU urges the government to seriously look into the demands by teachers and rest of civil service for review of their salaries to realistic levels to ensure uninterrupted services. The current salaries have reduced teachers to a joke,”
The ARTUZ have been plotting to go on strike against the poor working conditions as they are disappointed by the government who cannot increase their wages.
