ZEC Crushes hope for electronic voters roll

Zimbabwe Electoral commission (ZEC) will be producing the voters roll as a hard copy and not as an electronic copy as a many political parties anticipated.

ZEC held a press conference today in which they have crushed the hopes of many politicians who expected to receive the ‘promised’ voters roll as an electronic copy.

Justice Priscilla Chigumba, who is the chairperson of ZEC said the voters roll is still in the printing process.

“Voters rolls are not purchased in the same manner in which we purchase bread in a shop. There is a process which needs to be followed.”

“Ordinarily, it should take not more then 48-hours after purchasing but this will apply after all participating candidates have been given their copies. For now we are still in the process of delivering the copies to them.”

“No-one will be allowed to withdraw from participating in the elections once the 7-day window period after nomination had lapsed.”

In light of the comments made during the press MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa had these to say via his twitter handle.

“ZEC continues to refuse to release the voters roll. Worse still, the chairperson has now shifted goal posts and says they are printing hard copies.”

“We require an electronic copy; we have made this very clear. What are they trying to hide?”
