Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Mr Japhet Moyo has warned ZETDC not to play with fire . He said this following the suspension of eight workers from the Energy Sector Workers Union of Zimbabwe (ESWUZ).
The eight workers were suspended by ZESA on the 6th of March for allegedly being involved in a demonstration that happened on the 21st of December 2017 at ZESA holdings even though the demonstrations were cleared by the police.
Mr Japhet Moyo said that, “the demonstrations were basically on the corruption that is prevalent at ZESA such as awarding of tenders to dubious characters like Wicknell Chivhayo, Highfield National Assembly Member of Parliament Psychology Mazivisa and former ZBC News anchor Oscar Pambuka, the workers simply wanted the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to take action”
He made it clear that as a Union they demand an immediate reinstatement with all benefits of the suspended officials and that the ZCTU will not stand by and watch as an arrogant and overzealous employer plays around with its members. He said the Union is going to write to the President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committees on Labour and Energy to intervene over the ill-advised decision by ZESA to suspend the Union leaders.
The Secretary General made it clear that, the Union was prepared to go an extra mile by appealing its case to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
