Zimbabwe to commemorate World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is celebrated every year all over the world on the 1st of December to raise awareness about AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) a pandemic disease caused due to the infection of Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV).

In Zimbabwe the main celebrations will be held at Rujeko Secondary School in Glendale,Mazoe under the theme “know your status “,a call for everyone to get screened, the day is celebrated by National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe, Non-governmental organisations, civil societies and other health officials by organizing the speeches or forums discussion related to the Aids.

Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association(ZINATHA) President Mr George Kandiyero has urged people to go and get tested, for the pandemic as effects to the economy when it claims people in the working class and also disadvantages children who had their parent dead.

“I urge people to get tested and if they are found positive continue to take their medication properly and to date.”

Different health organisations and musicians have come up together in fighting against the disease through various ways including awareness campaigns ,music that spread the word to the whole world about the HIV and AIDS pandemic and encourage people to take advantage of the world aids day to learn more on what to do when one become positive.

World AIDS Day has become the most recognized days celebrated internationally with celebrations that offer the key opportunity to the health organizations to increase the awareness among people.
