A ZRP officer based at Harare’s Matapi Police Station in Mbare yesterday evening has shocked the entire camp and public when he blew his head with a single gunshot. Only identified as Constable Nyoni, with shoulder badge number 070700X reported for duty as usual.
He proceeded to book a rifle as part of his camp guard duty. Moments later, he returned to the Charge Office to change the rifle claiming it was faulty. Interesting enough and unpicked by colleagues, the later Constable Nyoni even warned the rifle has a bullet in the chamber as he proceeded to re-book a replacement weapon and left for the camp perimeter on duty.
Moments later, a single gunshot would sent fellow officers and the public in a rush to investigate, finding a graphic scene of the later officer lying in a pool of his blood by the car park.
Social media has since been buzzing with concerns of lack of psychological support for troubled duty officers after it emerged the late Nyoni had been struggling with marital and child support issues. Unconfirmed claims state that he would sometimes cry when he discuss his woes with fellow colleagues and friends.
