“We dont take orders from Nick Mangwana” Ecocash responds.

In response to the statement that was issued by the Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, pertaining the suspension of phone-based monetary transactions, Ecocash has released a statement which highlights that only the Reserve Bank can give a directive for the suspension.

Part of the statement reads “Ecocash is regulated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and would naturally expect a directive of that nature and significance to be communicated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. We urge all users who exceed 10 million Zimbabweans, the majority of whom do not have bank accounts, to remain calm and to continue to do your lawful transactions as usual.”

The statement is released at a time when most Zimbabweans who use Ecocash in most of their business transactions were put into panic by the Government’s position to suspend phone-based monetary transactions.
