Econet leads in Cyclone Idai relief assistance

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe group of companies has contributed $5 million to the victims of Cyclone Idai who were affected since last week.

In a statement Mr Douglas Mboweni Econet Wireless Zimbabwe CEO said as a company with different subsidiaries, they are not just providing money but skills and capabilities as well.

“We are not just providing money but we want all our staff of more than 5 000 to help in some way, using their skills,” he said.

Mboweni also said some of their group companies like EcoSure have already pursued coordinated initiatives based on their own abilities.

“EcoSure ,the group’s funeral insurance company, was providing free assistance with funeral services such as coffins, transport and food to each bereaved family with no cover,”

He also acknowledges the efforts of those who have been contributed over this Cyclone Idai emergency “We are seeing the best of Zimbabweans coming together in the face of an extraordinary tragedy. Econet shops had been receiving blankets, water bottles, dried foods and medicines,” he said.

Mboweni also urges the public to keep on supporting the affected communities as it will take long time to help them to recover.
