Zimbabwe Republic Police has urged women to avoid fetching water especially during wee hours as they endanger their lives to cowards.
The police on their twitter handle shared a disturbing event where a female adult was attacked and raped at around 0400 hours early morning at a busy area near New Mabvuku. The accused is said to have attacked the woman by covering her face with a cloth and she became unconscious .The complainant later discovered that she was abused when she regained consciousness.
Police have advised women to avoid fetching water at wee hours especially alone.
Water availability in Harare has increasingly been scarce with some areas going for months without tap water especially in high density areas, residents are now surviving on shallow wells and community boreholes.
Harare City Council claims the situation is due to lack of foreign currency leading to shortage of water treatment chemicals and drought as the major factor, the city is operating without sustainable supplies.
