Legendary Portia Ganzura who ensembled what stands till today as the Revolutionary, Pan-African and energetic cultural band Hohodza that birthed great talents as Progress Chipfumo, the late Simba Mudzingwa and many more has roared back into the industry and paid tribute to the fallen Mudzingwa.
Portia has dropped a remix and video of Simba’s most popular and personal song, “Kabhegi” in which she has featured the late Mudzingwa’s children Ruvarashe, Nashe and Tinashe and fellow bandmates that pinnacled the great Hohodza Band.
“I remember very well when I was young, dad loved this song so much and we would sing along and dance with him. Two things that my father loved were spending time with his kids and music, I miss him o much”, said tearful Ruvarashe Mudzingwa.
Fellow bandmates who have worked with Portia and Simba who also featured on the project included dancers Jane, Mavis, Felistas and Lloyd.
“I distracted myself with other things and had turned my back on the project that means so much to me. I am deeply grateful for what Simba has done for himself and the Zimbabwean community through his talent and music. I couldnt be more proud of him as a son and colleague. This song remix and working with his children has given myself and the children closure and an opportunity to honor his work. I trust the children will continue his legacy”, said the emotional Portia.
