Harare City Council employees are reportedly to have been swindled City chiefs millions of dollars using unregistered POS machines.
In a statement the organisation said the collected revenue was never submitted to the Council and they had discovered it when they take an operational procedure.
The Council said out of 43 district offices that they visited for an audit they revealed a total of 188 POS machines and the 19 POS which they knew were not linked to their bank accounts.
“A 100 percent stock count on the 43 district offices and other council revenue collecting centres revealed a total of 188 POS machines .There were 19 POS machines that were located at district offices but could not be found on the bank list,”
“It was also noted there was a…POS ID which had dual identification codes hence the risk was that it was open for abuse and manipulation,”
The organisation further said the similar thing also happened last year when they take an audit.
