A Harare man who allegedly killed his estranged wife’s boyfriend after finding the two in their matrimonial home last year has said that he will challenge his placement on remand if the State does not provide a trial date the next time he appears in court.
Through his lawyer, Muwande said:
“We are putting the State on notice, if they do not provide us with the trial date on the next remand date we will challenge our placement on remand.”
Harare magistrate Edwin Marecha remanded the matter to July 31.
Initially, Muwande was not asked to plead to murder charges when he appeared in court on October 4 last year.
He was admitted to US$300 bail.
The presiding magistrate ordered him to surrender his passport, to reside at the given address and report twice every week at Rhodesville Police Station as his bail conditions.
It is the State’s case that on September 29 last year, Muwande assaulted the late Harare Tees boss, Tinashe Chiweshe with hands, feet and a bottle on his ribs leading to his death.
