Mashonaland West province has suffered historic flooding that saw homes, livestock and people marooned and seeking shelter in higher grounds. Rivers Angwa and Ngwazani have burst banks claiming more than 15 lives, livestock and just emerging crops in fields making it one of the gloomiest beginning of the year in Zimbabwe.
In Chegutu, seven people travelling in a Honda CRV are reported to have perished when they attemped to cross the flooded bridge along Zimplats Road.
Elsewhere along the Angwa River which commands the second heaviest inland current after Save river during heavy rains seasons in Zimbabwe has claimed two lives as another travellers tried their luck against the raging waters.
A further six are confirmed drowned in Ngwanazi river near Kadoma.
As rains are still falling, police struggling to cope with the scale of the disaster are urging all motorists to reconsider taking the risk of crossing flooded bridges as well keep themselves on higher ground until the flood subsidies.
