Newton Popi (30) from Dangamvura Mutare has been remanded as one of the accomplices in the murder of Mathias Gore on Tuesday. The deceased was manhandled by touts while intending to board a bus to Mutare near Roadport Bus Terminus along Robert Mugabe Road in Harare.
Mathias Gore of Glen Norah C, Harare was with his family when the incident occurred around 5.30am. He was on his way to Mozambique when he was robbed of his wallet containing an undisclosed amount of cash and personal documents, including his passport.
According to the investigating police Popi is the conductor for the commuter omnibus with which the deceased was bieng taken to and the accused was the one pulling the deceased together with the accomplices who are still at large and there are witnesses to testify.
Popi appeared before Magistrate Josephine Sande today and was denied bail and remanded till 13 October for trial.
