Opening of schools rescheduled

The reopening of schools that was proposed to be on the 29th of June has been rescheduled to the 28 of July 2020. This was announced by the Minister of Information Monica Mutsvangwa yesterday after the 19th Cabinet briefing.

Although the reopening of schools has been rescheduled the Zimsec June examinations have not been shifted and will continue from the 29th of June to 22nd of July 2020.

“Cabinet resolved that the reopening of schools be moved from the proposed June 29, 2020 to July 28, 2020, to allow the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to engage Treasury and other stakeholders or partners to mobilise for the provision of adequate resources,” Minister Mutsvangwa said.

She went on to say “The decision to reopen schools on July 28, 2020, does not affect the June examinations, which are to be held from June 29 to July 22, 2020, as initially proposed,”

The decision of rescheduling of the date has come after the number of Covid cases continues to rise and has caused so many concerned parties like teachers unions and the ministry itself to question on the preparedness of the country towards the pandemic.
