Pangolin poachers arrested

Four people from Mashonaland province have been arrested for possessing a live pangolin without any licence or permit.

Tafadzwa Murengwa (24), Maxwell Landirani (41), Leon Tsiga (26) and Kudakwashe Nyoni (28) were arrested on the 20th of August when they were trying to sell the sacred species at Chisipite business centre in Harare.

Constable Mapedzamombe and Detective Mapira from Minerals and Border Control Unit Harare received information to the effect that the accused were trying to sell the pangolin in Harare.they worked effectively with the informer in tracking the ovements of the gang who used a car for their shaddy deal.

The accused persons were identified by the police and subsequently arrested with the help of the informer and the first accused who implicated the other three accused persons.

The pangolin was taken to Department of Parks and Wildlife. An affidavit was issued as court evidence on the trial date which hasn’t been set yet.

The sacred animal is valued $5000-00.
