Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company has blamed the electricity fault to vandalism of their equipment.
On its Twitter handle, ZETDC said, “Up to 30 000 households are without power due to vandalism of about 4000 transformers, cables and associated materials. ZETDC needs about USD 15 million to replace the stolen materials”.
ZETDC last week issued out a load – shedding schedule which left Harare and Bulawayo residents , especially those living in densely populated areas going for over 12 hours a day without electricity on a regular basis.
This load shedding has left a lot of residents in difficult times as some industries now incur huge costs by using expensive alternatives such as generators, which is even worse because of unavailability of fuel.
The county is already grappling with various economic challenges due to lack of foreign currency.
