Zimbabwe Progresses on Compensation of Former Farm Owners

Government has progressed the Interim Relief Payment Scheme of former white farmers who lost their land under former Robert Mugabe’s land reform nearly two decades ago with verification being completed.

“The registration of the Former Farm Owners for the interim relief payment scheme to the distressed Former Farm Owners has been completed, with 737 farmers having been registered for the payment,” Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance and Economic Development said in a press statement on Wednesday.

They said the verification exercise of the registered farmers by the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement has begun and will be completed by 31 May 2019.

Government which maintains the process, has made significant progress which will be completed by 31 May 2019. They have jointly worked together with the Farmer’s Representatives on the finalisation of the Constitutional Compensation commitment.
