Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has won a case against Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) at High Court who were suspending Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) leader Dr Peter Magombeyi to seek medical treatment in foreign countries after his alleged staged abduction.
“Zimbabwe High Court Order Police Zimbabwe to allow ZHDA official leader Dr Magombeyi to travel to South Africa to seek & access urgent special medical treatment after he had been prevented to do so by Zimbabwean Republic Police ,”
ZLHR said police were infringing Dr Magombeyi’s rights of seeking medical attention in foreign countries. ZLHR said Dr Magombeyi narrated his ordeals he encountered during the alleged abduction and threats he had received in August restricting him from mobilizing Doctors in challenging the status quo.
“He was released ad sought medical attention. Now police has prevented him from leaving the country to seek further specialized treatment. Although he is a complaint in cases he reported it is not clear why his rights are being restricted by ZRP,”
“In violation of Constitution the Zimbabwe Republic Police have prevented Dr Magombeyi from leaving Zimbabwe to seek further urgent medical treatment, forcing ZLHR Lawyers to file an urgent application at court,”
The ZHDA leader was abducted by three unknown men. Health professionals took the streets demonstrated as they demanded the immediate release of their colleague and leader Dr Magombeyi.
